Max
Lemon, an Associate Warden at Folsom Prison at the time
of the riot, testifies at the state senate hearing on the
code of silence. It is so unusual for correctional workers
to come forward with statements against the department that
Max Lemon had requested protection from the California Highway
Patrol prior to his testimony.

Evette
Pieper, widow of Captain Doug Pieper. Captain Pieper was
on a balcony with his supervisor on the day of the riot.
He committed suicide nine months later. In his suicide notes
to his family and the California Department of Corrections,
he stated that, "My job killed me." He said the
riot could have been avoided and he was being pressured
to not tell all that he knew.

Arnold
Schwarzenegger had only been California's governor for two
months when the state senate hearings on the code of silence
took place. The hearings were portrayed as an early test
of his resolve in tackling California's troubled corrections
system.
